Gov Umahi Test Runs First Ebonyi Trans-Sahara Highway

It was a moment of joy last night as the people of Ebonyi State trooped out en masse to witness the official test running of Akanu Ibiam flyover in Abakaliki embarked upon by the administration of Chief David Umahi.Speaking at the event, Governor Umahi noted that the state would by next year embark on the construction of another flyover at Nkalagu
Junction to reduce the spate of accidents at the spot. Before now, Akanu Ibiam Junction which situates at the heart of Abakaliki by Trans- Sahara International Highway and formerly known as Spera In Deo Junction used to be a nightmare for not only motorists but residents of the state.
Apart from the traffic gridlocks that sometimes occur in the area, it was also a death trap for both pedestrians and motorists with countless road mishaps recorded in the area.

Chief David Umahi had promised the people of the state during his campaign that he would in addition to beautifying the
city, construct a flyover to ease traffic for motorists plying the ever busy Highway.

Speaking after his convoy cruised past the flyover, Chief Umahi pointed out that the project was aimed at making the state capital one of the best in the country.

He commended the Ministry of Works for being steadfast to the developmental dreams of the state government and assured the people that three more flyovers would be constructed at Nkalagu Junction, Vanco and Ebonyi Hotels to ease traffic in the state.

The Commissioner for Works, Mr Fidelis Nweze explained that the flyover was opened for use to allow for sand compartment pointing out that the finishing touches would continue despite allowing motorists to be using it.
