Wike Flag Off Construction In Etche.
The road which is reported to be in a state of disrepair will be getting the attention of government for the first time since the creation of the state.According to the state government, this flag off is the beginning of a series of road construction around the rural areas. The event which was marked by an atmosphere of celebration and cultural dances by women and youth
groups was well attended by the different community leaders in the Local Government Area. The Commissioner of Works, Harrison Bathuel highlighted the economic importance of the road to the people.
According to him, the road will serve as a major link to Port Harcourt, the state capital.
“Your excellency in the past, this road has been un-passable. And you will agree with me that the people of Etche, particularly in this area are predominantly farmers. T
Therefore, the need to transport the farm produce to Port Harcourt is very necessary. With the official flag off of this road, in the next eight months, their worst fears will be a thing of the past.”
Meanwhile the governor in his speech commended the people of Etche, he said “I have told you before now, if we make a promise, by the grace of god we will fulfil the promise to the people”.
“Now I want to say this, how you know this country, we caught people printing result sheets, they say it was a setup, who set who up?
“The evidence was clear, they took the matter to zone 6, we told the world that they want to kill the matter. When they got to zone 6, what they have decided two days ago is that they take the matter to Federal Ministry of Justice, the office of the DPP and when the matter gets there, they will say there is no case, the matter should not be taken to court.
This is a country where printing of result sheets is like printing the currency of a country. Instead of INEC to say no, we want to know what happened, because it has touched on our credibility, they are not saying anything”
The Ulakwo 11-Afara-nihi road which is currently in a deplorable state is an 8.2 kilometres by 7.3 metres with drains of drains of 4 metres.
