Former President Goodluck Jonathan emerged star of the day at the just concluded Leadership Newspaper Awards.While he emerged Person of the year alongside President Muhammadu Buhari and former chairman of Independent National electoral commission, Professor Attahiru Jega, he was equally well praised by each speaker at the two hour ceremony held in
Abuja.From the welcome address by publisher of the newspaper, Sam-Nda Isaiah to the chairman of the occasion, General (Rtd) Abdulsalam Abubarkar to the keynote speaker, Akwa Ibom state governor Emmanuel Udom, Mr Jonathan was heavily praised for conceding victory at the 2015 general elections. On his part, Sam-Nda Isaiah said Goodluck Jonathan saved more than 10,000 Nigerians who could have been killed in electoral violence if he didn’t concede victory.
While giving his keynote address, Emmanuel Udom, the Akwa Ibom governor said political office holders should be the change they talk about and not just talk about the change. He urged leaders to do more for the citizens by cutting the cost of governance.
Delivering the closing remark, President Muhammadu Buhari said his administration remain open to the press and urged the media not to criticize alone but also join hads with his government to fight corruption. Below is the full list of winners
