Ohaneze asks Buhari to resume negotiations with IPOB leader

The Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo has called on President Buhari to resume negotiations with the leader of the Indigenous People of
Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
This is coming after IPOB issued a statement saying Kanu will never negotiate with the Federal Government.
A sharp contrast from the announcement made by the IPOB leader’s lawyers, Ifeanyi Ejiofor and Amoebi Nzelu, that he is ready to sit at the round table with the government.
Making a case for the resumption of talks with the IPOB leader, the President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro said “This is a much-awaited opportunity‎ which should be utilized to end the bitterness against the Federal Government by people of the South-East.
“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari not to allow this golden opportunity slip off his hands.
“It is our firm belief that the Buhari’s administration will engrave its name as heroes of democracy if they utilized this opportunity to free Nnamdi Kanu.”
Adding that “for the dialogue to be genuine and fruitful, Kanu should lead the IPOB delegation. Nobody or group should negotiate on his behalf; this is to avoid a situation where the government will end up wasting time and resources.
“If the government succeeds in this regards, it would no doubt endear it to Ndigbo and help in healing so many wounds.”
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) slammed Kanu and IPOB for allegedly deceiving Nigerians after reaching a secret agreement to renounce the Biafra agitation.
